The new giant that will set sail from the South of Florida: Legend of the Seas

Mar 4, 2025

Royal Caribbean International (NYSE: RCL) has announced the launch of its most recent cruise ship, Legend of the Seas, the third ship in its Icon series, which will debut next year.

The ship will begin operating permanently from the Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale in November 2026, offering six-night itineraries through the Western Caribbean and eight-night itineraries through the Southern Caribbean.

Before its deployment in the Caribbean, the ship will undertake seven-night voyages through the Western Mediterranean from Barcelona starting in July 2026.

Legend of the Seas follows in the footsteps of Icon of the Seas, which debuted in 2024, and Star of the Seas, which is scheduled to launch in August 2025.

This new vessel will continue the series' focus on family experiences, with multiple areas, water attractions, dining options, and a varied range of entertainment.

"After celebrating a year of the revolutionary Icon Class, Legend of the Seas is the next great step in this exciting era of vacationing and the continuation of the Icon Class legacy," said Michael Bayley, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean International. "We look forward to bringing this innovative offering of experiences to more families and adventurers in Europe, the Caribbean, and beyond."

Currently, Legend of the Seas is under construction in Turku, Finland. It will measure 1,198 feet (approximately 365 meters) in length and will have 2,350 cabins with the capacity for up to 7,293 passengers.

The 19-deck ship will also be the fourth Royal Caribbean vessel powered by liquefied natural gas and will incorporate various environmental technologies, including waste heat recovery systems and shore power connectivity.

Legend of the Seas will offer a wide range of amenities, including eight unique areas, more than 40 dining and bar options, the largest water park at sea (Category 6), and various pools, including Royal Bay, the largest pool on a cruise ship.

Other standout attractions include Crown’s Edge, a combination of an aerial walkway, ropes course, and thrill ride, as well as Surfside, a neighborhood designed for families with young children.

Additionally, the ship will feature the Ultimate Family Townhouse, a three-story family home with dedicated spaces for all ages.

Royal Caribbean International is a subsidiary of the Royal Caribbean Group, headquartered in Miami. The cruise line serves over eight million passengers a year.

Royal Caribbean shares were trading at $239.11 on Monday afternoon, up 2% from Friday's close.
