New Norwegian ship arrives in Miami ahead of its Caribbean voyages
The last ship of Norwegian Cruise Line (NYSE: NCLH), the Norwegian Aqua, arrived at PortMiami from Southampton, England, on April 13 for its official christening ceremony before starting its itineraries in the Caribbean later this year.
The christening —a maritime tradition that blesses a ship before its maiden voyage— was led by Emmy-winning actor Eric Stonestreet, who was named the ship's godfather. The event took place at Terminal B, the main operation of NCL located at 1922-2298 N. Cruise Blvd.
“This is a very special moment for all of us at NCL: we are welcoming a new and incredible ship to our fleet,” said David J. Herrera, president of Norwegian, in a statement. “And now, with our newest ship, the Norwegian Aqua, entering the market with trips to the Caribbean and the Bahamas, it is the perfect time to start planning your next warm-weather vacation.”

The ship, measuring 293 meters (962 feet) long and accommodating up to 4,959 people, will begin seven-day cruises in the Eastern Caribbean from Port Canaveral until August, before moving to New York for its fall voyages. It will return to Miami in October for a new Caribbean season.
Travelers departing from Miami will embark on seven-day trips to the Dominican Republic, U.S. Virgin Islands, British Virgin Islands, and the Bahamas.
Built by the renowned Italian shipyard Fincantieri, the Norwegian Aqua is 10% larger than other ships of the Prima Class. Among its various amenities and entertainment options are the new Aqua Slidecoaster, a digital sports complex called Glow Court, and a deck named Ocean Boulevard that spans 4,274 square meters (46,000 square feet) with panoramic views.

Other offerings include new duplex suites, a spacious upper deck with a pool, and 17 integrated restaurants.
In addition to the Norwegian Aqua, NCL announced future enhancements to its private island in the Bahamas, Great Stirrup Cay, which will include a new pool area and family features, set to launch in the third or fourth quarter.
Founded in 1966, Norwegian Cruise Line has become one of the largest cruise brands in the world, with over 30,000 employees. The billion-dollar company reports serving about 2.2 million passengers annually.

Norwegian Cruise Line is part of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd., which also includes other brands like Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises.
The company's shares were trading at $16.49 USD per share on Tuesday afternoon, an increase of almost 1.2% from the previous day's close.
