The MSC ship will set sail toSouth Florida before the debut of the PortMiami terminal.

Apr 1, 2025

MSC Cruises USA has received its new cruise ship, the MSC World America, ahead of the naming ceremony scheduled for next month at the company’s newly built terminal in PortMiami.

The delivery, announced on March 27, marks a key milestone for MSC's growing operation in North America. Built at Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire, France, World America is the 23rd ship in MSC's fleet and is part of the World Class series.

At 1,094 feet long, MSC claims that World America has been designed with the North American market in mind, incorporating new spaces and amenities that blend European style with American preferences. Among its features are a yacht club, a ropes course, and 19 dining options.

Pierfrancesco Vago, executive chairman of MSC Group’s cruise division, highlighted that World America represents a "moment of pride" for the cruise brand founded in Switzerland and for the French shipyard Chantiers de l’Atlantique.

“Our new flagship is a testament to our innovative partnership of over 20 years, which has resulted in five revolutionary prototypes and 19 ships,” he said. “Together, we continue to push the boundaries of design, technology, and onboard experience to set new standards in the cruise industry.”

The World America has been designed with a focus on energy efficiency. It operates on liquefied natural gas (LNG) and features shore power connectivity, an advanced wastewater treatment system, and a comprehensive recycling management program.

When it arrives in Miami, World America will be the first ship to dock at the new MSC terminal, which has 490,000 square feet and is located at 1103 N. Cruise Blvd. The official inauguration ceremony of the terminal is scheduled for April 5, while the ship naming ceremony will take place on April 9.

On April 12, World America will begin its inaugural season in the Caribbean, with seven-night itineraries to tropical destinations such as Puerto Plata, San Juan, Costa Maya, Cozumel, and MSC's private island, Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, in Bimini.

MSC Cruises continues to expand its World Class fleet, with the MSC World Asia currently under construction and scheduled for 2026, while the recently named MSC World Atlantic will begin operations in 2027.

PortMiami, known as the “Cruise Capital of the World,” plays a vital role in the economy of South Florida. It is the primary embarkation point for millions of passengers each year, boasting a record 8.2 million passengers in fiscal 2024.

The port, which is also a key hub for maritime trade, generates over 340,000 jobs in the region and has an annual economic impact exceeding $61 billion. Its strategic location in the heart of Miami, facing Biscayne Bay, and its advanced infrastructure make it a cornerstone for cruise lines and a key source of revenue for Miami-Dade County.
